Just getting here - drove straight to the beach before checking in smiles :)
Makin' our way to our destination ~ The Sunset Inn
After a most warm greeting & welcome, being shown to our room ~ The Smithville, blue/white decor were good selling points)
Our porch overlooking the marsh (well, minus the hat - stole this pic off the web, ha)
Makin' a toast after settlin' in ~ "to us, to being here..." ~ it was a quick one - we were anxious to get back to the beach :)
The 1st glimpses of what would be an unforgettable sunset (didn't know at the time, it would be the only one we saw)
Mr. Fisher's happy face :)
Takin' the view (sigh)
Enjoyin' a glorious sunset (those rays, unbelievable)
Seein' the pier lights come on (beats pants off street lights)
Music (one song needed, one song played...over & over) ~ savoring the moment
Ending our day with laughter, good eats & a bottle of wine @ Roberto's in Ocean Isle
Friday morning found us off to a slow start...
We enjoyed coffee, some breakfast & then more coffee all the while bundled up on the porch. Yep, the cold front had certainly arrived! We exchanged cards - lots of "awes" in that & I got my five year "wood" gift :) A game that we've yet to learn to play - when Seth says he'd prob better watch a youtube "demonstration" vs. just reading the seemingly complicated directions...yep, we'll do that another time :)
After taking a hot shower - mostly to get feeling back in my bones, we headed out to lunch at the Inlet View at Shallotte Point. We made sure to sit outside (ended a bet that "no one would sit outside" between 2 waitresses) and tried to enjoy the view between breezes. The food was good, the Red Stripes were great and it was good to get back in the car where we could warm up once we were done :)
After all that time spent outdoors we rewarded ourselves with climbing straight back into bed for the afternoon - where it was warm! It was a great, lazy afternoon spent cuddling & enjoyin' the warmth (of each other & the heat we turned on!) Video chatted with the babies & that was awesome...a good hold over for missing those faces and lil' voices.
Gettin' ready for our dinner at the Parson's Table in Little River
Enjoyin' a beyond wonderful dinner w.red wine, fried green tomatoes w.goat cheese (for appetizer), salad, prime rib (for Seth), ahi tuna (for me) and lots of plate sharing :) Other than some stragglers @ the bar - we shut the place down...
Friday was a good night's (truth be told, better than the 1st) sleep and Saturday was another nice morning of breakfast, coffee and moseying around the room/porch.
After breakfast we decided to get ready to get out & do some piddlin' down in Calabash. We so enjoyed moseying through all the lil' shops there...
We rewarded our piddlin' w. the best meal of the weekend. Not best b/c of the fine dining, the wine list or the atmosphere. It was best b/c it was a dive, we got sat in the back room all by ourselves, the eats were yummy, the beer was ice cold (seemed to keep coming) and the conversation and laughter were just us being as us as we could be (deep sigh) ~ here's Tony's...our lunch destination in all it's "glory" :)
Post lunch, we enjoyed a walk down to the waterfront in Calabash...
The following are mid-day, drinkin’ people kinda poses…
Example one – me feelin’ a need to wrap myself around a pole, possibly thinking (a) I’m bein’ cute or (b) that I can pull it over...
Example two – Seth giving same pole a “lean to” pose, possibly thinking (a) I’m bein’ cute or (b) I can hold this thing up should it start to fall…as with 1st example, it appeared to make us happy :)
Despite our silliness, we were thinking of the babies…nice to have these “reminders”
John’s
Ella’s
After lunch & moseying, headed by the grocery store JUST to get beer & pee (man, I love a simple trip)...aiming to make our way to the beach as the sky brightened just a smidge :)
Cold *ss beach all to ourselves (minus those 500 people up on the pier – maybe they know something we don’t)
Here's the big kid that "has to go swimming" - there he goes...
post-swim delirium :)
thankfully, for some of us - tunes and cooler proximity were plenty satisfying...
here me are, cold beer on a cold day – at least my towel stayed dry – ha
final big people meal out…a good one to end things on – back to Calabash for Grapevine
So, there it is - a lil' overview/timeline of our 5th anniversary trip. Having the opportunity to be removed from all of our familiar - back to what it all started as, just Seth & Traci...um, just sorta beyond awesome.
Not going to hash through all the emotions in that b/c some things are just for us to know and carry a little more hitch in our giddy up for knowing. This is mostly just "for the book" :)
So thankful for all that's happened in the small span of 5 years. Our family's grown - our hearts right along with it. Our love for each other - greater, deeper, stronger. Our amusement with one another - still unmatched :)
Sums it up so nicely...
